Having an out of the ordinary navigation in your website doesn’t mean it should be complicated for the visitor to find his way around. We all enjoy a cutting-edge Flash navigation that allows us to discover and experience what the site has to offer. Here are a few examples of creative flash navigation that caught my attention this week.

Snapshots of Provence

visitprovence

The creators define it as “a sound and visual experience from the travel book of photographer Thomas Duval and sound designer Tacteel“. This website has a stunning Flash navigation and works better than a tourist guide, combining relevant images, sounds and videos that represent the specific of a city. Use the showreel to navigate and explore.

FlashXpert

1. Tell everybody a little bit about yourself. Who you are, where you are from?

My name is Bogdan Nitica and I am from Romania, Iasi. I have been working under the FlashXpert name since 2008.

2.  How did you first get involved in the web design and development industry?

I started working with Flash in 2003 as a freelancer, but the enthusiasm came long before, ever since high school, when I programmed my first algorithms. During the past 6 years I’ve been employed as an AS Programmer/Flash Developer at 3 top local companies.

3. What made you decide to sell files on FlashComponents.net?

From the beginning FlashComponets.net had an ascending number of visitors and at this time I can say that this number is huge. Updating the products is very easy, we can choose our own price and new files are approved very quickly.

Yesterday, Serge Jespers published a round up of “5 Flash applications that will blow your mind“. And they did. These just come to show that Flash developers don’t lack innovation or creativity. Need proof? Here goes:

This interactive video is dancing virtually gone wild and it’s one of my personal favorites. Put on your headphones, turn on your webcam and follow the dance instructor’s moves. You’re going to love this one!

Visit Serge Jesper’s blog for the rest of the round up and, if you check out http://swfhead.com/flash , there’s more where that came from. Enjoy!

Apple and the Garden of Eden

I’m a daily ClientsFromHell reader and today I read what I think is one of the funniest dialogues so far.  :D

Client: Hey, just one final question before I send the deposit. Do you use a PC or a MAC?

Me: I use a MAC.

Client: That is a problem. Do you have access to a PC? I am not a supporter of Apple products.

Me: No, I don’t have access to a PC, but this will have little to no effect on the work itself.

Client: I am a Christian and Apple products are sinful, I do not want our website to be created by a product made by this corrupt group. You need only look at their logo, an apple with a bite taken from it. Do you not know the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden? If I allowed you to create my website on a MAC I would be just like Adam, taking a bite of the forbidden fruit.

[Silence]

“Take my advise, destroy your mac and repent for when judgement day comes. It shall be you who is cast to hell for your sins.”

Me: [Block Contact]

I definitely recommend subscribing to this blog.

I posted a video over a week ago about the multi-touch capabilities of Flash. Two days ago, Lee Brimelow demonstrated in an awesome video how well Flash works on mouse-based touch devices, with a compilation of Flash websites from the FWA.

This video is aimed at clearing up the misinformation surrounding Flash rollover events and touch devices. The assertion that most Flash sites need to be rewritten is absolutely false.

Incredibox is a brilliant beat-box Flash app created by three French artists, but I should give you the heads-up: it’s potentially (highly) addictive.
